Overview

THE ROLE: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Product Development or Process Engineer Scientist to join our dynamic team. The  candidate will play a critical role in supporting the manufacturing of a wide range of nutritional food and supplement products and ensuring an efficient production processes.  

 

The position is responsible for assisting in formulation development and manufacturing process qualifications for product acquisition, development, technology transfer activities, including evaluation of product performance, and the design, qualification and optimization of manufacturing process.  Responsibilities include, with the guidance of senior staff, identifying and assessing suitable raw materials for product formula; conducting stability studies; and setting appropriate raw material and formula specifications to meet quality, uniformity, safety and regulatory requirements; evaluating new process, equipment and technology that offer impactful improvements or competitive advantage for Herbalife products.

 

The position collaborates routinely with Herbalife global cross functional teams including Innovation, Quality, Product Sourcing, Regulatory Affairs, Project Management and Supply Chain as well as raw material suppliers and Contract Manufacturers to ensure speedy product launches, smooth commercial production and on target profit margins.  

The scientist must have proven sound technical knowledge in material chemistry and process physics, and proven good teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to perform under dynamic environment with goals and objectives in constant evolution.

 

 

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE: 
•   Design, evaluation, qualification, and optimization of sophisticated product formula and production processes.
•   Support the development and validation of new product manufacturing processes.
•   Coordinate and implement bench-top, pilot, manufacturing scale-up trials with support, generate data to qualify manufacturing process and product performance.
•   Conduct experiments/trials, prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
•   Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, results, and observations.
•   Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and quality.
•   Assist in troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to equipment, processes, and product formulas.
•   Apply statistical tools in evaluating and implementing formula and process changes.
•   Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure timely and effective project completion.
•   Effectively communicate in a cross-team environment, serving as a technical SME in resolving formulation and production challenges.

The Process & Manufacturing Excellence Team is a key part of Herbalife Central Product Innovation function consisting of diverse and talented scientists who are skilled in product formulation, sensory, manufacturing and processing technologies.  Our team provides global manufacturing support and corporate governess, drives technology innovation and strategic continuous improvement to deliver optimal production capability, efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness.  We also work on a wide range of food, beverage, and supplement product innovations to bring delightful consumer product experiences that makes a difference for Herbalife Distributors, and global manufacturing support for  improvement.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 
•   3+ years of commercial product development and manufacture experience with broad understanding of technologies, industry segments and product lines.
•   Demonstrates a high level of technical ability to apply sound scientific principles and methods in decision making, problem solving and process improvement.
•   Good understanding of good laboratory practices, techniques, and equipment, and familiarity with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) applicable to food and supplement industry.
•   Working knowledge in utilizing statistical tools and programs for product performance/process capability assessment and continuous improvement.
•   Capable of conveying technical topics clearly and efficiently with non-technical staff,  proven written and verbal communication skills.
•   Demonstrated ability to learn with an open mind and adapt to new technologies and methodologies quickly.
•   Track record of taking initiative to identify challenges and opportunities proactively and resolve collaboratively. 
•   Results-oriented, self-starter and an independent thinker and yet still be a phenomenal teammate with strong skills to collaborate with geographically and culturally diverse teams.
•   Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and organize workloads with supervision.
•   Ability to effectively communicate and perform in a  cross-functional environment.
•   Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.
•   Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Education
•   Master’s degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or related fields.  
•   PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or related fields (Preferred).
