Overview

THE ROLE: 

We are seeking an expert, highly motivated and detail-oriented Product Development or Process Engineer Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the innovation, development, and manufacturing of a wide range of nutritional food and supplement products.  The role will lead the design, qualification, and optimization of manufacturing process for commercial production, manufacturability assessment, and evaluation of product performance and stability through appropriately designed pilot and production trials.  Additional responsibilities include raw material selection and qualification; formula specification development; conducting root cause analysis and resolving technical issues related to product and process performance; and driving technology innovation and continuous improvement initiatives that offer impactful improvements or competitive advantage for Herbalife products.

 

The position collaborates routinely with Herbalife global cross functional teams including Quality, Procurement, Regulatory Affairs, Project Management and Supply Chain as well as raw material suppliers and contract manufacturing sites to ensure timely product launches, smooth commercial production, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards as well as on target profit margin.  The scientist must have shown technical experience in nutritional product formulation and production, good collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to perform under a multi-layered environment with goals and objectives in constant evolution. 

 

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

  • Own the data-driven design, evaluation, qualification and optimization of Herbalife nutritional product formula and production processes.
  • Conduct manufacturability assessment for product innovation prototyping.
  • Design and conduct robust feasibility and manufacturability trials to support new product development and/or optimization of existing formulas to meet the commercial and regulatory needs at target market.
  • Identify new ingredients and delivery technologies to support impactful product innovation and formula optimization.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and explore manufacturing technologies for product manufacturing to optimize operational efficiency and quality.
  • Apply statistical tools proficiently to evaluate formula and process performance and implement required changes.
  • Effectively communicate in a cross-team environment as a technical SME in formulation and manufacturing technology. 
  • Conduct data-based root cause analysis and resolve technical issues related to manufacturing equipment, processes, and product formulas.
  • Provide effective technical training and mentorship to junior team members.

The Process & Manufacturing Excellence Team is a key part of Herbalife Central Product Innovation function consisting of diverse and talented scientists who are skilled in product formulation, sensory, manufacturing and processing technologies.  Our team provides global manufacturing support and corporate governess, drives technology innovation and strategic continuous improvement to deliver optimal production capability, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.  We also work on a wide range of food, beverage, and supplement product innovations to bring delightful consumer product experiences that makes a difference for Herbalife Distributors, and global manufacturing support for  improvement.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • 7+ years of commercial product development and manufacture experience (capsules, tablets, soft gels, powder, liquid, etc.) with broad understanding of technologies, industry segments and product lines.
  • Understands QbD principles for formula and process design, and with solid knowledge and practical experience in product/process development and maintenance in a cGMP environment.
  • Proficient with utilizing statistical tools for product/process improvement and develop robust formula specifications.
  • Proven track record to learn with an open mind and adapt to new technologies and methodologies quickly.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute appropriate project plans and implement them with limited to no supervision.
  • Able to take initiative to identifies issues, and proactively initiates collaboration to resolve. 
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; sound judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.
  • Results-oriented, self-starter and an independent thinker and yet still be a teammate with strong skills to collaborate with geographically and culturally diverse teams.
  • Ability to convey technical topics clearly and efficiently verbally and in writing with non-technical staff.
  • Ability to coach and mentor in an industrial setting.

 

Education

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related fields. 
  • PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related fields is preferred.
