Overview

THE ROLE:

 

The First Shift Chemist II will work onsite in the Quality Control Lab within our Innovation and Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC. As a 2nd level chemist, with proven skills in applying chemistry knowledge to project assignments in the experimental design and planning stage, will perform  chemical and physical analysis of inner and outer nutritional products in the quality control lab using wet chemistry techniques and instrumental analyses.

 

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

  • Performs qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical analysis of raw materials and finished products.
  • Writes chemical analysis procedures for incorporation into test methods.
  • Assists junior chemists to run experiments for release and stability studies
  • Prepares standards and reagents; calibrates and operates sophisticated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, FTIR, UV- Visible spectrophotometer.
  • Interprets test results and compares with determined standards and limits.
  • Interprets and compares data and historical records and trend verification
  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to document data in lab notebook and follow cGMP guidelines.
  • Will assist laboratory staff by training chemists and laboratory technicians.
  • Review product certificates of analysis for accuracy and conformance and maintain C of A files.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and efficient laboratory

Qualifications

 

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

 

Skills:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under general supervision
  • Ability to prioritize workload for effective implementation

  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Ability to function as an effective team member
  • Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves

Experience:

  • 3+ years' experience in an analytical laboratory of qualitative or quantitative analyses
  • Experience in various wet chemical analysis and/or instrumental analysis applying FTIR, HPLC, GC and UV-Visible spectrophotometry
  • Superb knowledge of cGMP guidelines
  • Nutraceutical or pharmaceutical laboratory work experience

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field or equivalent experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Previous cGMP regulation and compliance knowledge
  • Knowledge in test method development and trouble shooting
  • Master of Science in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related field
