Overview

THE ROLE: 
The Director, Sports Performance, Nutrition & Education will direct activities relating to global sports performance, sports nutrition, and fitness education initiatives. Will be responsible for developing a global sports performance program that will include exercise physiology, sports nutrition education and a complete integration of the use of Herbalife products by worldwide sponsored teams and athletes. Director will be responsible for the development and creating sports specific nutrition protocols for individual athletes and teams worldwide. As part of the Clinical Research Team, the Director will create or review proposed clinical studies and will provide oversight of clinical trials on current or future Herbalife24 products, which includes collaboration with a university, protocol development and manuscript preparation. Additionally, Director will be responsible for overseeing global clinical trials on any sports-related Herbalife products. As part of the sports performance program Director will research exercise modalities and fitness programming and use data collected to create exercise protocols for segments of weight loss, health maintenance and athletic performance as part of the company wide strategy of improved distributor and customer results. The Director will also manage and develop direct reports. Direct reports are dietitians that work for Herbalife and support the Los Angeles Galaxy and a team that works at Proactive Sports Performance. 


Director will develop sports performance, sports nutrition, wellness coaching curriculum and exercise education content to be used and shared through Herbalife’s global marketing channels and social media outlets as well as for member training and be will appear on screen as a part of product specific training videos as well as videos demonstrating our authentic worldwide athlete relationships. Will manage content development for a general audience to be shared through various media outlets (TV, radio, and print). Will also develop separate content specifically aimed at worldwide sponsored teams and athletes. This position will also require travel (up to 35% of the time) to meet face to face with Herbalife Distributors and athletes. Time spent with athletes will involve one-on-one consultations to provide personalized nutrition recommendations as well as media tours in the various countries. Travel will also be required to local and international events to provide sports nutrition, general nutrition, and product training to Herbalife Distributors. 

 

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:  

•    Direct global sports performance programs for all sponsored teams and athletes. This includes facilitating in person exercise science programs, sports nutrition education and explaining Herbalife products and philosophy so athletes can better integrate the products into their daily routines.  
•    Work with all global sports partnerships and individual athletes to support their nutrition needs, conduct any required physiological testing, design nutrition programs.  
•    Travel domestically & internationally (up to 35% of time) to train Herbalife members on Herbalife Global Nutrition Philosophy, features and benefits of Herbalife and Herbalife24 products and answer technical inquiries related to Herbalife24 products. 
•    Travel to sports science conferences will be expected, to stay up to date with key research findings and interact with key leaders in the field.  
•    Assist in development of sports and exercise-related training content for Members; serve as an educational resource to Fitness Advisory Board (FAB).
•    Direct sports clinical studies on existing or new products to validate efficacy. Also, interpret and prepare data, and drafting manuscripts. 
•    As member of Clinical Research Team, serve as advisor on all clinical trials for Herbalife
•    Oversee clinical trials pertaining to Herbalife Sports products
•    Develop and write marketing & educational content, for implementation on social media platforms and in print for both internal and general audiences  
•    Conduct research of academic publications to support the writing of marketing material 
•    Conduct training calls with the worldwide fitness advisory board on sports performance and exercise science topics and collaborate with key FAB members to streamline distributor education materials across all regions.
•    Develop and manage a comprehensive distributor wellness coaching curriculum, working closely with sales, marketing and member education to ensure assets are available using multiple communication channels.
•    Responsible for creating a detailed sports performance video series to be placed on the new Herbalife fitness video portal. 
•    Develop exercise protocols and provide research and industry insights to create a sport/fitness based distributor retention and customer acquisition strategy. 
•    Support and manage direct reports, 2 nutritionists. The 2 nutritionists will work directly with the LA Galaxy. This partnership will involve product education, coordination and activities related to enhancing sports performance.
•    Support and manage direct reports at Proactive Sports Performance, manager and dietitian. The 2 direct reports work directly with the Proactive team on their programs This partnership will involve product education, coordination and activities related to enhancing sports performance.

Sports Performance Dietician and Education - Galaxy premier team
Sports Performance Dietician - Galaxy development team
Proactive Sports Performance onsite team – manager and dietitian 

 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 


Skills: 
•    Background working in exercise science, kinesiology or other sports related field 
•    Strong ability to translate scientific concepts to practical recommendations for athletes and lay population 
•    Deep knowledge of athletics: how athletes train, recovery processes, etiquette, team travel etc.  
•    Nutrition and training expertise.
•    Strong public speaking ability and excellent presentation and public skills: can present to small groups and large groups. Ability to communicate information & excite enthusiasm/instill credibility about our products & health. 
•    Great listening skills with ability to transfer ideas into actionable solutions.
•    Strong customer and results orientation with the ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity. 
•    Ability to evaluate primary scientific literature.
•    Strong writing skills from a technical and marketing standpoint.
•    Expert in relationship building 
•    Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and possess advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
•    Ability to draft scientific protocols and management of laboratory experiments for nutrition and sports.
•    Critical thinking and ability to anticipate changes in marketplace (such as megatrends in nutrition and lifestyle).


Experience: 

•    10+ years prior experience in an advisement role as a nutritionist/performance enhancement specialist for a competitive sports team or sports organization 
•    10+ years demonstrated experience training or teaching experience, with the ability and history of addressing large audiences
•    2 years prior laboratory research experience academic experience included 
•    Individualized nutrition consulting and/or coaching with elite athletes 
•    Experience with behavioral change approaches 
•    Experience with to operate as a member of a multidiscipline performance team 

Education: 
•    Bachelors in either human nutrition, clinical nutrition, applied sports nutrition, but Masters Degree preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    4 years’ experience in clinical trial experience. 
•    PhD in biological sciences, sports science or related field
•    Training in anti-doping legislation 
•    High level of flexibility
•    Experience with and comfortable in front of the camera
•    Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
